What kind of stories is Flyleaf Journal looking for?

Flyleaf Journal is seeking literary fiction. We accept submissions of up to 5,000 words. The stories can be any style and on any subject. We are looking for fiction that linger in the reader's mind long after they've put the story down.

 

Does Flyleaf Journal pay money for accepted stories?

Yes. Flyleaf Journal is offering $25 for First Serial North American rights. All rights will revert to the author upon publication. 

 

Does Flyleaf Journal accept previously published material?

It's okay if your submission has been previously submitted on a blog, an online magazine, or in Kindle (or other self-published form), as long as you have sold fewer than 100 copies.

 

Does Flyleaf Journal accept simultaneous submissions?

Yes, but please notify us immediatley if your story has been accepted for publication elsewhere.

 

Can I change the story I submitted with an updated draft?

No.

 

How do I submit to Flyleaf Journal?

We have an automated system for you to send us your work. It will securely send our editors your story.

 

When can I submit to Flyleaf Journal?

We accept submissions from October 1st through August 31st.

 

How soon can I expect to hear about my submission?

We do our very best to respond to submissions within 3-4 months after they are received, but are sometimes slower in responding, especially if the story is a top contender.

 

How will my story be published?

Accepted manuscripts will be published digitally and in print on a monthly basis with an original cover illustration.
