Flyleaf Journal

Reprint Award

2015

We believe that great stories shouldn't be tossed to the literary wayside simply because a new publishing cycle has begun. The world of publishing is constantly regenerating itself, disregarding the wonderful stories of yesteryear. It's our belief that great fiction does not have an expiration date. While we primarily publish new writing and voices (we accept general fiction submissions from January 1st to August 31st), we are most interested in publishing the best writing, no matter the age of the story. It's time to breathe new life into one of many retired stories so that they may, once again, reach the imaginations of a whole new generation of readers.

The guidelines for the contest are as follows:

Editors' Reprint Award Details:

  • $150 and publication in Flyleaf Journal will be aarded to one previously-published  piece of fiction.

  • Top two finalists will be announced on the website along with the winner.

  • Contest doors close August 31st 2015.

  • Entry fee is $15

  • The winner is announced in September, their story to be published in the December 2015 issue.

  • Regarding the original publication of a story: there is no time frame or format (electronic or print) limitations, so long as it meets the copyright agreement with the original publisher. Many journals hold exclusive rights for between 3-6 months. Some are longer. We will be checking eligibility of finalists with the original editors.

Submission Guidelines:

  • At this time, our contest is open only to fiction entries.

  • We will only consider submissions through our online submissin manager.

  • In addition to a brief bio, include the name and email address of the original publisher in your cover letter so we can confirm availability should your submission be chosen as a finalist.

  • Include a word count in your cover letter. Submissions must be under 5,000 words.

  • Attach only one story per submssion. Multiple submissions are allowed.

  • Do not include any identifying informatin on your manuscript, including your name or the original publisher. This information should be in your cover letter.
